The Heat Fund – Biomass Heat for Industry, Agriculture and Services (BCIAT)

Half of France's final energy consumption goes into producing heat, yet heat production still relies mainly on fossil fuels. France does not lack alternatives, however, and it is with this in mind that the State introduced the Heat Fund (Fonds Chaleur).

What is the Heat Fund?

A major commitment of the Grenelle Environment Forum, the Heat Fund aims to develop heat production from renewable energy sources (biomass, geothermal, solar thermal, biogas and heating networks) in the collective housing, commercial, local authority, industrial and agricultural sectors.

The BCIAT call for projects (Biomass Heat for Industry, Agriculture and Services)

It covers industrial installations producing more than 12,000 MWh of energy per year from biomass. The State has delegated the management of this fund to ADEME, the French Agency for Ecological Transition.

ADEME launched a first call for projects in 2009 to encourage the development of biomass heat production projects in industry and agriculture.

In total, the State allocated a budget of nearly €1 billion over the 2020-2022 period.

The objective for 2030 is to further deploy the energy transition in industry, agriculture and the private service sector (offices, shops, large retail outlets, airports…) so that 38% of the heat consumed comes from renewable sources.

BEIRENS and the Heat Fund

As part of the Heat Fund, BEIRENS designs, manufactures, installs and maintains products and solutions that are perfectly suited to these new environmental commitments.

In collaboration with CÉRIC and the leading manufacturers of biomass appliances, BEIRENS keeps track of changes in fuels and adapts its materials accordingly.
